A Student Splash Out in Glasgow

Image
This last blog post is going to be a little different to the rest, focusing on spending that SAAS payment properly and getting a top-notch feed. Whilst all my previous posts have been about saving money on a tight student's budget, sometimes you need to treat yourself and go all out. Here's 2 of my top favourite restaurants in Glasgow, perfect for when you're looking to treat yourself. The Grill on the Corner    £££ Located on Bothwell St, the Grill on the Corner is a trendy restaurant specialising in premium aged steaks. Don't let the upmarket vibes put you off, as inside it's a very casual setting, providing the perfect place to go with either friends or family. The menu is quite varied, offering steaks to seafood and oysters to pork chops. Although everything I've ordered or seen from here was top notch, my favourite is the 'blackhouse selected' fillet steak. Top this off with some peppercorn sauce and a side of their finest mac and cheese and yo...

This blog post is for all those bargain lovers out there, focused specifically on things to do in the city whilst saving your money. As Glasgow is one of the most expensive cities in the UK, it can be hard to find stuff to do on a budget that’s actually worth your time. That’s why the city's museums are the perfect way to spend your day, without spending a penny. Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum For helping make you seem a little more cultured, a trip to Kelvingrove will sort you right out. Easily spending a whole afternoon, this museum and gallery near Kelvingrove park is host to many exhibits and showcases. Split into two wings, ‘Life’ and ‘History’, there's much to see which will interest you. With showcases being mainly based on the Glasgow and Scotland area, it’s a good way to see some national history for yourself. On display are natural history exhibits, ancient Egyptian artefacts and historical art collections to name a few. One which mus...

A Cheap Pint in Glasgow City Centre

For a lot of us "hard-working students", the first thing we want to do at the end of the week is to head to the pub for a couple. After all, we do deserve it. However, the biggest problem with being at a University in the city centre, is the extortionate prices charged by bars and pubs. Not being surprised when a pint comes in at £4.50, its surprising to find a half-decent place where you can actually have a few and still have some of your SAAS left over. This blog post is all about the places that I've discovered that hand out some pretty good deals and discounts, just by flashing that student ID. The Merchant       £ Starting off, The Merchant on West George Street has to be the cheapest student pint in the city. At the bar, ask to buy one of their student saver cards, these only cost £1 and have no expiration date. With one of these, you open up the new menu pricing for students, and with a pint of Tennent's being only £2.15, who can complain? The student sa...
