A Day in Glasgow
This second post of the Students in Glasgow blog is intended to give ideas for when the family comes to visit. Keeping it all family friendly, this day out will be a treat for all.
Breakfast ££
Stack and Still was one of the most popular new restaurant openings of the last year in Glasgow, and for a good reason. Offering a huge menu of pancake offerings, the toppings that you can have seem endless. You can go big and order one of their signature plates, each including 3 buttermilk pancakes and hosting plenty of extras. Savoury or sweet, Stack and Still is the perfect place for breakfast as it will suit all appetites. Go for the refreshing "Raspberry and Fig Stack" featuring toppings such as crème fraîche, fresh raspberries and lemon curd all underneath a healthy dose of honey. Not feeling a sweet option? go bold with the "Seafood Stack". This includes salmon, beets and pickled onion and is sure to fill you up for the day ahead. Obviously a popular choice, they have since opened two more outlets, at Silverburn and the Fort shopping centres.
During the day
Explore Buchanan street and the galleries for a world renowned shopping experience. Featuring a host of both high-street stores and independent boutiques, there really is something for everyone. Without a doubt, a weekend visit will include a host of live street performers including everyone's favourite, the bagpipes.
Dinner £
Try your chances at Paesano pizza restaurant, often regarded as the best pizza in the UK. Head to Miller Street early though, as there is always queues out the door and they don't take reservations. Paesano offers a selection of pizzas in their no-fuss menu, all on top of a traditional homemade Italian dough. My personal favourite is the number 4, keeping it simple with a spicy salami and mozzarella combination. Opt for sides too, with the olives in evoo or buratta with cherry tomatoes always a hit. Wash it all down with one of their specially made wines from Veneto, or a schooner of Moretti to keep it authentic. For £8 a pizza at most and alongside the fantastic reviews, Paesano is definitely worth the visit.
After ££
One of the most exciting newest openings in the centre, Jungle Rumble on Bath street is a must. This indoor mini-golf adventure location is bound to help create laughs with the family, and if the family isn't too young, then mini-golf and booze are a surprisingly good combination. With their constant discounts and offers running, you'll be sure to have a good time without breaking the bank. There are two themed courses to play, with the beach in mind. Not what you'd expect in Glasgow.
Hopefully this post has given you a good idea of what to do when the family visits. Not expecting them anytime soon? My post on cheap drinks in Glasgow will set you right.
