Cheap Eats for Students

Being a full-time student is tough work at the best of times, however, when taking your well-earned time off there’s no better place to take advantage of than Glasgow. This blog was created with the intention of helping point likeminded students in the right direction and giving recommendations for taking that important time out. Weekly posts will keep you updated, giving tips and hints on the best things to do and places to eat all whilst under a student’s budget. This first blog is focused on getting you a proper midweek dinner, to push you through to the weekend.
Bar Soba Mitchell St Glasgow
Bar Soba interior on Mitchell St. GlasgowSelling itself as an Asian fusion restaurant, featuring “indulgent cocktails and pre-club DJs in a hip setting”, Bar Soba is the perfect spot for filling up. Perfect for students, there is 50% off food and 25% off drinks available Sunday through Thursday. This makes Bar Soba one of the cheapest spots in Glasgow for a decent meal out. With three outlets in Glasgow, (located in Mitchell Lane, Merchant City and Byres Road) you shouldn’t be too far from your nearest one and their menu is stacked with plenty of options. From vegan sharing plates to more traditional noodle-based dishes, it would suit all appetites.

For starters, my personal favourites are the salt and pepper squid, or the cheeseburger spring rolls. The spring rolls might sound like a strange combination but they’re one of the best choices on the menu. As a main, go for the ‘Nasi Goreng’. This is an Indonesian-style spicy fried rice, served with either chicken satay or a vegetarian aubergine and broccoli tempura. Also, because of the massive student discount on offer, you can stock up on some of their best sides, such as their loaded fries. These large portions will fuel you right up for the rest of the week ahead without eating too much into your wallet.

Looking for a drink with your meal? Bar Soba has an extensive cocktail and beer menu on offer, but best keep it Asian with a pint of Tiger or an Asahi.

Next week, look out for the upcoming blog post about spending the day in Glasgow.
